Prince's Guitar Does Not Gently Weep

Prince's guitar... screaming and moaning

It still shocks me when I find someone who has not seen this, and since greedy little Prince has removed all and any prince songs from youtube, I figured this was my one shot on getting him on my website. This has been called by some the best guitar solo in history, fact...not opinion.

And when you consider how rarely he plays especially with rockers like Tom Petty, not to mention George Harrison's son Dhani, this is indeed epic and belongs right here in our cyber time capsule!

Soundgarden's Guitarist Kim Thayil: Profound Moments with a Living Guitar God by Xana La Funete

There are some people in your life that you just know you will always remember, it''s usually tied to an event or to another person, and I have as many people in my life that are not famous at all that I have these kind of significant memories of, some family of course, some of strangers I had moments with that were defining enough to remember always. Kim is one of those people. Profound maybe only to me, but hey, it's my website so ha ha!

Happy Birthday David Gilmour! A Look At His Best Friend Otherwise Known As His Black Stratocaster

The Black Stratocaster

David Gilmour’s black Stratocaster is almost as legendary as the man himself. The guitar has been featured on some of the world’s biggest selling albums of all time and classic Pink Floyd songs like Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Comfortably Numb. Now, some 40 years later, Fender has released a signature model and a whole generation guitar players are modifying their guitars for a similar look and sound.
David bought the Black Strat at Manny’s guitar store in New York, USA in May 1970 during Pink Floyd’s North American tour. As fate would have it, David had just weeks earlier bough his first black Stratocaster at the same store but it was stolen along with the rest of Floyd’s rig. Being forced to cancel the rest of the tour David once again visited Manny’s on their way back home and the rest is pretty much history. The Black Strat made its debut performance at the Bath festival in June 1970.

Randy Rhodes

Randy Rhodes

Randy Rhodes, seeing him or even hearing his name reminds me of 1980's alternative metal. Thats when Rock was reall cool to listen to, becauase at the time we all were outcast for liking Ozzy Ozzborne. I always felt that Randy's passion and talent on the guitar more than made up for all the silly onstage, and offstage antics. "Over the Mountain" today is still one of my favorite rock guitar songs.

Tal Wilkenfeld

Tal Wilkenfeld

Tal Wilkenfeld - One of the best new female bass players of out time.. Well not exactly new. Tal was born in 1986, and by 1999 (at the age of 13!) was the touring bass player for the Jeck Beck band. Tal has recently also released a new solo album thats pretty good. Keep your eve on this hottie, cause chances are she will end up jamming with other guitar gods in the future.

Frank Zappa

Frank Zappa was also an unsung Guitar God hero, in 1982 he recruited a young Steve Vai to record and tour with him, this clip is a live performance of duel guitars. But whats interesting is that the flow of this song feels more like a musical journey as opposed to a competing guitar song. Frank was a brilliant song writer and understood the tone, mystic, and influence that the rock guitar had over the alternative Rock Jazz scene of the 1980's. We will be posting more of Frank in the days to come.

Jimi Page - The right hand of Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Page - The right hand of Jimi Hendrix

Ok, for anyone out there that needs schooling with Guitar God 101, the other Jimi (Page) is second to only one regarding his guitar mastery. If Hendrix is _the_ guitar God, then Jimi Page is definately his son. Jimi Page took a script from Jimi Hendrix and mastered the over dubbing guitar riffs technique that Hendrix introduced with the introduction of 16 track recording.

Jimi Hendrix - Stockholm 1969

Jimi Hendrix - Stockholm 1969. This video has great sound quality, and really captures the essence of Jimi, and is full of interesting and comical moments for a budding rock star, including Jim tuning his out of tune guitar during Spanish Castle Magic, or side conversation with the auidence. This is definately one to watch. To learn how to play Guitar like a God Click Here!
